Celebrate Poetry Month at the library by participating in various events at the library!

This month Morris County residents can enter a Book Spine Poetry Contest. Explore your inner poet through the books you know and love. Place books directly on top of each other in order to make a poem out of their titles and send us a picture of your creation! You can send us your picture by emailing your submission to mclbookspinepoetry@gmail.com; tagging us on Instagram @morriscountylibrary or on X (formerly Twitter) @mclib with the hashtag #BookSpinePoetry. The book spine poems will be judged by three Morris County Library librarians and the winner of the contest will receive a gift card and have their poem featured on our website! Only Morris County Residents will qualify to win, but participation is open to all.

Stop by the library for Morris Authors Day and participate at our drop-in poetry table from noon to 4:00pm! Create an acrostic poem, make blackout poetry or try creating paint strip poems! Drop-in poetry is available for all ages.

Throughout the month, a Poet Tree will also be on display in the library. Participants of all ages are invited to fill out their own poetry leaf to add to the tree. Write a short poem, an acrostic or draw a picture.

In Reader's Services there will also be a Blackout Poetry table set up where teens and adults can create their own poems using printed book pages. The Blackout Poetry table will be available all month.

Children are also invited to write their own poems to display in the children's room using a flower shaped poetry page. Pages are available on the children's poetry month book display.
