When Dee’s parents split up, she went with her dad, and her twin sister Beth stayed behind with their mom. Dee hasn’t visited her hometown in quite a while, but unfortunate circumstances bring her back when Beth goes missing. Desperate for answers, Dee immerses herself in Beth’s life, attending her school and speaking with her friends and boyfriend for any possible leads the police may be missing. At the same time, Dee finds herself wrapped up in a cause Beth was supporting before her disappearance- blocking a new pipeline from being built through the New Jersey Pinelands. They call the Pinelands home, and it soon becomes evident that someone else does as well.

Tara O’Connor’s Fly By Night is a heartwarming mystery about protecting what you love. The book is equal parts supernatural thriller and character-driven story about family and friendship. I appreciated the amount of time the book spent following the main character and her friends during community forums and hearings regarding the new pipeline. Readers will get a glimpse into what it’s like to engage in this type of activism, and Dee’s character really grows through her ability to express her feelings in this way. The art style features bold lines and strong colors, which perfectly capture the emotions of each scene.

An awesome book for environmentally conscious mystery lovers.
