According to the USDA market newsmen in key cities, the root vegetables are particularly plentiful. Cabbage, various greens, potatoes, and onions are good buys throughout the Northeast. In fine supply at nearly all centers are cranberries, spinach, turnips, rutabagas, parsnips, sweet potatoes and pears. Most markets offer apples, oranges, carrots, cauliflower, celery, peppers, squash and lettuce. Best Buys:--Cabbage, spinach, lettuce, potatoes and apples. Good Buys--Sweet potatoes, green Pascal celery, onions, parsley, winter squash, cranberries, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, turnips, parsnips, beets, avocados, greens, pears and Red Emperor grapes." ---"Food Comments," by Miss Helen Mahrle, Morris County Cooperative Extension Service County Home Agent," Daily Record [Morristown, N.J.], November 25, 1953 (p. 7)
