Then and Now Photo Challenge

Ready to be a local history detective? The Morris County Library, in partnership with the Morris County Heritage Commission, invites you to step back in time and see how much our county’s landscape has changed! We’ve selected ten historic photos from the archives showcasing different corners of Morris County’s past. Your mission is to track down these locations, stand where the photographer stood (or as close as you can), and capture what they look like today.

How to Participate 

• Find the Locations: Download the digital "Then" photo packet or pick up a physical copy at the library [Click here for Photo Packet](PDF, 7MB)  
• Snap Your Shot: Travel to the sites and take a "Now" photo. (You don't need to find all ten to enter, but every location found increases your chances!) 
• Submit Your Entry: Upload your modern-day photos using the form below. 

 

The Prize

• Upon submitting your photos, you’ll be entered into a raffle for one of two $50 Gift Card! 
• Tip: Look for clues in the surrounding environment and architecture, such as rooflines, window shapes, foliage, or even the curve of a road to make sure you’ve found the exact spot! 

Contest Rules:

• Entry into the Photo Challenge is open to all Morris County residents.
• Entries must be submitted between May 1st (12:00 AM) and June 30th (11:59 PM) of 2026.
• The Photo Packet of “then” photos will become available online and in person at the Morris County Library at the start of the Challenge.
• New Photos of each location must be original for each participant and taken during the contest period.
• Basic photo correction and cropping are allowed, but AI-generated imagery or use of photos available online for submission is strictly prohibited.
• Participants may submit anywhere from 1-10 new photos of the locations in the Then & Now photo packet.
• Each correct photo submitted will enter a ticket for a participant into a raffle drawing for the prizes.
• Participants must list a current phone and/or email with each submission to be eligible for a prize.
• Participants must follow all local laws and respect private property for everyone's safety while participating and scouting locations.
• Winners will be notified via email or phone by July 15^th, 2026
