This story follows a girl named Bryn Roth, who is moving back to her family home. After the death of her parents at a young age, Bryn’s great aunt made a deal with the family to raise her in another city but that she must return when she comes of age. The Roth’s are a powerful family in their city, and have made a name for themselves for all the wrong reasons. Mainly known for violence and secrets, the Roth’s are now looking to change their image and gain entry into the merchants district of the city. This can only be done with the assistance of Bryn, and a few more characters that you come to love.
This novel is a standalone fantasy novel, and an amazing one at that. It is a beautifully laid out story from beginning to end. You find out not only about the world in which Bryn lives in but get to see how her character grows over such a short time period. No cliffhangers are involved and all questions are answered which is a nice change of pace compared to other young adult fantasy. I am happy that I was able to read a story from beginning to end and not have to wait for a follow up to publish. That being said, if Adrienne Young would like to continue this series, I would not complain either.
