New Jersey Maker's Day began in 2014 with the hopes of inspiring and highlighting STEM and maker culture to enhancing life-long learning. This all-ages event is intended to support making, tinkering, crafting, manufacturing, and STEM-based learning.

On March 24th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, stop by the library to participate in some of our Maker's Day Programs. Programs will be on a drop-in basis, there is no registration required.

Make a necklace using binary code at our Creative Stem Fun for Kids program in the library's atrium! Children will be able to make a necklace out beads by using binary code to determine the pattern of the beads for each letter of their name. This program is recommended for children ages 8 and up, no experience is necessary.

Also in the atrium stop by our Drop-in Fun Science stations, children will be able to learn about magnetism and electricity by participating in various experiments. Experiments include building a simple motor, making simple circuits with graphite pencils, experimenting with magnets using different materials, and experimenting with conductivity by making a squishy circuit. These activities are recommended for children ages 5 and up, no experience is necessary.

More activities will be taking place in our children's room too!

Stop by anytime between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to show off your LEGO building skills or stop by our Decoration Station to create a unique bookmark or door-hanger. Children will be given a blank bookmark or door-hanger to decorate with various supplies, such as stickers, crayons and more! Bookmark crafting will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue throughout the day while supplies last. Recommended for children ages 3 and up.

Little Red Riding Hood's basket has broken and she needs your help making a new one. Stop by the Children's room beginning at 10:00 AM to create a basket of your own. This project is intended for children in Kindergarten and up. One project per child, while supplies last.

The Three Little Pigs also need your help! The wolf is on his way, and they need your help building a home that can't be knocked down! Stop by the Children's Room at 12:00 PM to build your own brick house for the three little pigs. This project is intended for children in Kindergarten and up. One project per child, while supplies last.

If you don't want to make a house of bricks, make one with snow! At 2:00 PM you can help Yeti make a home by Building an Igloo. This project is intended for children in Kindergarten and up. One project per child, while supplies last.

At the end of your visit make sure to stop by the Children's service desk for a STEAM Take and Make. Projects are recommended for ages 5 to 12, and each family can pick up one project to work on together. Projects available while supplies last.

Please note all children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of their visit.
