Year of the Reaper is a standalone fantasy novel set in a world living through a plague. With two kingdoms at war, a peace treaty is made. The princess of one kingdom is to marry the king of another, but she must ride through plague ridden lands to get there. Fast forward a year later, we have a royal family, a new baby, and a nobleman returning home after three years of being imprisoned and sick. When chaos breaks out, our nobleman finds himself involved in a mystery. Who is attempting to kill these people, and why?

I was enthralled with this book from page one. I found myself diving headfirst into this story. Although it starts with plague ridden lands, this is not a COVID story, but a fantasy and mystery rolled into one. The characters find themselves attempting to solve the mystery of who is this killer, and are compiling clues along the way. Lies and deceit play a big part in this book, and knowing who is trustworthy is not always easy. Some supernatural elements do play out in this fantasy and help to move the story along. The protagonist is male but has a female counterpart who works alongside him. This book is for fans of fantasy, or mystery fans who may want to give fantasy a try.
