This nonfiction book is all about elements of storytelling but laid out in a fun and unique way, by comparing it to video games. The author states that most video games have a “storyline” that they follow- some are choose your own, some are set in stone. Video games can start and end at the same place, no matter what the player decides; others allow the player to decide the fate of the character. The player can connect with the video more if they enjoy the storyline, and want to see how it plays out.

In this book the author discusses some of his favorite storylines of all time featured in video games. He uses elements of a story to provide context for his reasoning. Chapters are dedicated to story, plot, theme, protagonist, and more. He also highlights other games and displays them like a book report (title, characters, plot, etc.). This is a great book for anyone who wants to understand more about storytelling, or who is looking for a good book about video games. Players may even find a new obsession.
