What would be the verdict if your worst parenting moment were put in front of a judge? In this alternate universe, unfit parents are sent to a reform school for a year to determine if they are good enough to regain custody of their children. Frida was a struggling single mother when she made the mistake of leaving her baby alone long enough for CPS to be called after the neighbors heard her crying. Can she prove to the court that she was truly having just one bad day?

This is an eerie page-turner, reminiscent of The Handmaid’s Tale that imagines a world where women must be perfect mothers; it seems as though no one can truly achieve that status under society’s microscope, just not everyone gets caught.
