Poppy, a NYC travel writer, and Alex, a small-town Ohio teacher, are best friends who take a vacation every summer. Their relationship is 98% percent platonic and 2% “what if…” (although that 2% sometimes feels like a much bigger percentage). After two years of awkward silence after their trip to Croatia, Poppy has one last vacation to get Alex back into her life. Author Emily Henry switches between the current summer and past summers with each chapter, keeping the reader eager to piece together both what happened in Croatia and what will happen on this final summer vacation. This is a fast read, perfect for those looking to get out of a reading slump. I blew through this book in two days; it would be a perfect reading choice for a weekend getaway. I found both Poppy and Alex to be incredibly likable and felt myself rooting for them as I got to know their awesome, easy friendship through their past vacations.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Favorite Excerpt: “We drink Sazeracs and hurricanes and daiquiris everywhere we go, because “Staying on theme matters,” as Alex says dramatically when I try to order a gin and tonic, and from there, we have both our mantra and our alter egos for the week”.
